Las Vegas - An original song by Frank Lamphere

Las Vegas is a song written by retro crooner Frank Lamphere. Las Vegas is the second track on the Frank Lamphere CD America the Beautiful, Swinging.  An expolsive song, that Lamphere waited 13 years to record, features a big band. The chart to Las Vegas was arranged by Lamphere's frequent  accompanist Larry Harris.

There have been some powerful songs written about this iconic American city and Frank Lamphere's song, has joined those ranks.

Personnel on Las Vegas:

Larry Harris - piano
Dan McIntyre - guitar
Dennis Carroll - bass
George Fludas - drums
Russ Phillips - trombone
Mark Olen - trumpet
Eric Schneider - alto & tenor sax
Frank Lamphere - vocals

Frank had been singing professionally for many years, yet he didn't begin writing songs until 2007.

On an early September morning he awoke with a "vivid" melody (Las Vegas) and unlike with the previous dreams, he immediately hummed the melody and handful of lyrics into a nearby tape recorder. Deciding to take a shot at writing an entire tune, Lamphere devoted the next several hours to jotting down all of these ideas and by early afternoon, had a near completed song. This experience left him dumbfounded and thinking to himself "What-in-the-heck was that?"

With the help of some very talented pianists-arrangers (Skip Green and Bobby Schiff) Lamphere was able to get the notes and harmonies on paper and begin performing the song shortly after.

Las Vegas

Music & Lyrics by Frank Lamphere

Verse

I awoke one morning, had a vivid dream

Thought "Well I'll be damned"

Had this song 'bout casinos and music

buzzin' through my head

Took four days off work,

then I scrammed!

Chorus

Just booked a flight to Las Vegas

Off to where high-rollers go to play

On the boulevard,

there’s a tournament today!

A gambler said the air smells just like “C” notes

and Frank and Dino’s work, is still applauded there

The dream comes true, at last

I’ve had a lifetime to prepare

On Fremont Street, you see old Vegas

Not to-be-missed, I hear it's quite the show

Desert sky, after sundown

The perfect backdrop for that famous neon glow

Gonna’ take a drive around Las Vegas

Take-in places, Louis Prima used to swing

And Elvis Presley, right there, was crowned “the king”

I've studied books about gambling

And now have confidence enough to win,

at all!

Twenty-one, one-armed bandits.

And what excitement when those dice

begin their fall!

Today, I'm heading to Las Vegas

I just know that lady luck will come my way!

Be it known loud and clear

There’s no doubt, there’s no fear

Las Vegas, I'm here!
